Naruto, right after he snatched Sakura away from Sasuke's murduring hands, explained how he learned from Tobi the truth about Itachi. Naruto also said that what Sasuke has done is understandable. Sasuke dismissed him as he couldn't possibly know or understand, because he never had parents. Sakura burst in saying that Naruto has never stopped thinking of him as a friend, even tried to rescue him. Naruto swore to rescue Sasuke from the chaos of revenge. The stage has already been set for Sasuke's vengeance to happen.
Sasuke had killed Danzo a high ranking elder of Hidden Leaf. By killing and committing himself to revenge Sasuke feels Uchiha name is being cleansed. He promised to sever all bonds to the Hidden Leaf as the ultimate true restoration. Kakashi summarized it all when he said: "Hatred. The history of repeated accumulating hatred. That is what created the Sasuke in front of us." Kakashi feels responsible as Sasuke's sensei. Kakashi send Naruto and Sakura away so that he can try to resolve... at that moment Naruto clone held on to Kakashi while real Naruto grabbed Kakashi's Rasengan and jumped to attack Sasuke. At the climatic moment of clash Naruto remembers how the entire Hidden Leaf Village despised him. Even his home teacher Iruka feared him.
12 years ago when the Nine-Tails was sealed, new law has been enacted forbidding anyone talking about the Nine Tailed Fox spirit within Naruto. Long time ago Nine Tailed Fox killed Iruka's parents and destroyed Hidden Leaf Village. Fourth Hokage then sealed Nine Tails within Naruto. Naruto felt alone, ousted and ostracized by the village. No one wanted to talk to him, many feared him. Naruto had much anger built inside him. One step in the wrong direction and Naruto may have conjured up some terrible plan of revenge. Naruto didn't have anyone until Sasuke and Iruka Sensei. It was Iruka sensei and Sasuke that saved him from acting on his urge to inflict pain and get his revenge. Naruto had Nine Tails and Sasuke had Uchiha fate. Both had to cary similar burden. Naruto always wanted to talk to Sasuke as they had much in common, but Naruto made Sasuke his rival, because he wanted to be him. Sasuke has been Naruto's goal.
